Meet Tristan: HTA Service Intern

We are happy to share about Tristan who joined Howard Tech as an apprentice in June 2019. This was part of the Howard County Public Schools and Apprenticeship Maryland Program that HTA participated in. During this time, Tristan shadowed team members, learning different aspects of HTA processes and hands-on experiences. Tristan is now an official part of the HTA Service Team as a Service Intern!

Clients might have already had the opportunity to work with Tristan these past few months. He’s in charge of user ‘activity’ among other duties. When clients have users join or leave their company, lots of user set up or close out actions must be completed. Tristan has taken over these tasks and successfully completes them with little supervision.

Here’s some fun facts about Tristan so you can get to know him more:

What accomplishments are you most proud of – personally or professionally?

Learning most of the material of the A+ exam over quarantine and making it back to HTA.

How did you spend your time during quarantine? What kept you occupied?

Doing my A+ study sessions with Jason Maeser and Eddie. I also played my fair share of Xbox with my friends.

What interests you about the technology industry?

The different ways you can use technology in any setting and knowing that there’s always something I can learn.

What skills/training/certifications/etc. would you like to pursue over the next 5 years?

A+, Network+, and Security+ certification as well as learning how to build networks and utilize different types of hardware that I’ve learned about while studying for the A+ exam.

Do you have a favorite App or gadget you can’t live without?

The weather app.

If you could share – “what I wish I knew now/then” – tip with someone, what would that suggestion be?

I wish I knew what my learning style was back when I first started interning at HTA. I wasted months and months watching A+ exam prep videos just to find out that visual learning was not my learning style. When quarantine hit and I started doing A+ study sessions with Eddie and Jason Maeser, I noticed I was absorbing way more information when we would talk out the different problems/questions. We would go over each answer and discuss why they were right or wrong. So, I learned that my learning style was interactive learning. Now that I know that it’ll be easier to learn more about the other exam contents.

How do you like to spend your ‘down time’?

Hanging out with friends, hanging out with my girlfriend, playing Xbox, watching anime and studying for IT certifications.

What’s your favorite:

  • Video game: Minecraft/COD Warzone/Rocket League
  • Band/Music: Post Malone/America/Green Day
  • Movie/TV show: Any Adam Sandler film/Harry Potter
  • Food: eggs, bacon, hot dogs, Mac n cheese, pizza, etc.

Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?

“I feel that as long as the shire lies behind, safe and comfortable, I shall find wander more bearable.” -Frodo Baggins

Anything else you’d like to share?

Jason Maeser has been helping me study over the course of this quarantine period even though he wasn’t required to. He did it purely from the kindness of his heart, and as a result I’ve gained more knowledge then I ever thought I could in a 3-month time period. Just wanted Jason to get recognized for his efforts.

We welcome Tristan in his role as Service Intern. We’re excited to support him as he learns and gains knowledge and experience with our team and by working with our HTA clients.
