Few things are valued more these days than the “return to normal”. Our annual holiday lunch felt ‘normal’ this year with some minor differences.
We were so lucky that weather cooperated in early December with warm sunshine to safely gather as a team outside with boxed lunches, music, and ‘masked’ conversation.
Some offsite staff joined via Zoom for announcements and a different kind of gift exchange. For 2020 it was an even more meaningful spin on the traditional “Secret Santa” – it fulfilled the saying ‘the reason for the season’.
Each team member identified their favorite charity and said why it was important to them. Team names were swapped (like in a gift exchange). But instead of giving or getting a silly gift or new coffee mug, the recipient ‘donated’ to that person’s charity of choice – giving a monetary donation ‘gift’ in their honor.
It was a delightfully different way to demonstrate our support for each other and our local and global communities.
In all, 27 different charitable donations to a variety of organizations were represented – Columbia Community Care, The Ronald McDonald House, Senior Dog Sanctuary, The Salvation Army, Wounded Warrior Project, The Autism Society, and The Alzheimer’s Association, to name a few. Everyone left the holiday lunch feeling good and knowing more about each other and our passions.
We hope to continue this as an HTA tradition each year. 2020 has sure been a doozy in many ways, but this was a positive win to grow on!
Sharing what matters and “building community” is always in season, most especially this year! And this mission reminder is now captured on new t-shirts for team members.
Also in December, our holiday elves were out visiting clients when and where possible to spread some holiday cheer!
We THANK YOU, our clients, friends, families, and business partners for your ongoing support.
Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy, and safe start to 2021!
