Earlier this year we shared about Microsoft Teams and other Office 365 updates. There are more reasons to try out Teams now so you’re ready for this next transition – moving Skype for Business to Teams.
Why the change? Microsoft is retiring “Skype for Business” in the near future and they are transitioning all customers over to Microsoft Teams. The consumer version of Skype will still be around.
Top benefits? Group-based chatting. You can chat with teams of co-workers – sales team, service team, HR team, marketing, and more. And each team can have different “channels” for different topics of discussion. Teams also allows multi-user video calls and saves all chat history. This means your previous conversations are kept forever, they don’t disappear like Skype.
Can I interact with others who haven’t switched? Yes, if you convert to Teams (individually or as a whole organization) you can still chat with people who are using Skype for Business.
About Microsoft Teams: It’s a chat based collaborative workspace that Microsoft released on November 2, 2016, to take on Slack. Microsoft Teams is made for companies and groups within them that want to collaborate, and it requires that your workplace has an Office 365 subscription. Howard Tech or your IT department will need to activate the service.
Learn more! Interested or curious to see how it work? Microsoft has a cool interactive demo site where you can go and interact with the product in a simulated environment.
Next Steps: The transition from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams will take a little time and effort, but we are ready to help you navigate. Howard Tech is a proud Microsoft partner and we are using Teams ourselves. We would be happy to discuss the benefits of using Teams or answering any questions. Feel free to contact us at [email protected].
