Meet Seth: Our Competitive Cyclist

Seth has been with Howard Tech Advisors for 4 years. His smile says it all. If you have met Seth, either at an event, in our office or yours, you know that he is a pleasure to be around. We are so glad that he has found himself on our team. Learn a little bit more about Seth here.

I have been in the IT industry…

Since 2002. Previous to Howard Tech, I was a datacenter manager aka server and network equipment babysitter. I decided that I wanted to interact more with people rather than hardware.

The most exciting part of my job is…

Having the ability to positively influence people’s lives. Whether it’s our clients or the HTA Team, I just enjoy helping others grow and learn. I’m also a gadget enthusiast with a bit of ADHD. I tend to get bored with current technology quickly, so the fast-changing pace of the technology industry keeps my hunger for new gadgetry (hardware or software) satiated.

My proudest accomplishments are…

Personally, my family and friendships, I would have to say. Professionally, building a good website from scratch or assembling hardware that I consider a work of art both visually and functionally are both super satisfying.

In the next 5 years, I would like to…

Become a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert or MCSE. My entire IT career and even before that I’ve wanted this certification. It’s just a matter of finding the time to study! It is A LOT of studying!

Outside of work, I enjoy…

Spending time with my wife and 2 kids. Watching them grow up is a real pleasure. It’s fascinating seeing them experience things I went through as a kid but now having the perspective of an adult. I truly enjoy the time we have together and growing more connected every day as a family! I also enjoy pretty much anything related to bike riding. I like to help support a local cycling group based out of Catonsville (MD) called Adventures for the Cure. They are a very passionate group of people who love to raise money for various causes. I’m not a big sport team enthusiast. I do tend to get really into supporting the USA Olympic Track Team during the summer Olympics. Running has been a life-long passion of mine and it’s exciting to live vicariously through all the current athletes in competition.

One of my goals for 2018 is…

To be the fastest cyclist on all the major climbs in Howard County as logged in the popular fitness platform, Strava. I’m getting close already so think I have shot this year. I love pushing myself to new limits, and enjoy the cause and effect it has on the local cycling community as others respond in-turn and push themselves to new limits. Keep things competitive and fresh!

A food I could not live without is…

Mint chocolate chip ice cream!

My favorite tool…

Is my modular mini-screwdriver 50-piece multi-tool for working on PC hardware and even super small things like glasses screws.

Three things on my desk are…

An old school glass Coke bottle. A Howard Tech client had printed for me along with that of their staff. They presented it to me with the declaration that I’m part of their family. That was an awesome moment, so I keep it as a reminder of why I love this work so much!

A picture of my family.

My laptop, phone, and monitors. I couldn’t work without any of those!

People that inspire me are…

My wife. She’s the best person I know! Every single day I become a better person because of her!

My kids. I really enjoy experiencing life with them as they grow up, learn and experience the world. At this point, they are even teaching me some new things here and there!

The entire HoCo athletic community. In must the same way we here at Howard Tech enjoy community outreach, the local athletic community in Howard County is very passionate about helping others and it’s a true privilege to be a part of that movement!
